In this scenario, the culprit occurs on a user’s Outlook 2016 being written to a faulty system file at startup.
By repairing, reinstalling or removing updates, then restarting the system, you should be happy to see your normal Outlook again.
Microsoft is never satisfied with the current version of their software products and they are always coming up with some new version of it improving different aspects.
You can take your search offline and go to the forums for answers to your question
You can go to “File > Account” in any of the Office software like Word, Excel, PowerPoint or whatever application you’re using. You will find the version number and build number over there, as shown in image below.
For example, I’m using Outlook 2016 version 1611. Of course, that’s a version number and build string.
Then open the Run dialog box, using Win + R.
Type one of the following commands in it, based on whether your Windows 10 is 64 bit or 32 bit.
64-bit version, type:
“%programfiles%\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64\OfficeClickToRun.exe” /update user updatetoversion=(version)
32-bit version, type:
“%programfiles%\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86\OfficeClickToRun.exe” /update user updatetoversion=(version)
Here, the version number is the one relevant to you, which means you do some research on that and find out what it means.
You could also do this using the Control Panel. Go to your Office folder, select 2016 and then right-click and select “repair” (next to Change as an option).

This type of scenario arises when you have a bad add-in in Outlook. With the intention to different functionality you keep on installing new add-ins from time to time.
These all take resources (time) during the startup of Outlook 2016. Sometimes, Outlook opens slowly, but sometimes it crashes. In such cases you can follow this solution.
- Select “CTRL” key using your desktop keyboard while opening Outlook 2016.
- Select “File” > “Manage Add-Ins“.
- Now disable all types of “Add-ins” which are active by default. You can also do it by going through File > Options > Add-ins, if by luck Outlook starts at all.
- Restart Outlook again and check to see, if it’s not crashing.

This type of problem arises when you have a graphics card like NVidia and you probably optimize its settings for better resolution, but the same can be a culprit in causing Outlook 2016 to crash.
So you just have to toggle with the features of your Graphics card and set it back to default settings. Possibly your Outlook 2016 will become normal again in Windows 10.
- Go into Outlook > File > Options > Advanced
- Look for “Display”
- SELECT/CHECK the “Disable Hardware graphics acceleration” option. (if it’s not already checked)
I’m running SB on a computer with NVIDIA GeForce graphics adaptor and I’ve noticed that sometimes Outlook 2016 doesn’t seem to play nicely with graphics acceleration.

Problem with Anti-Virus or Internet Security
There are a lot of anti-virus and Internet Security programs that create a lot of registry entries for themselves and for other programs, such as Microsoft Outlook.
For example, McAfee (which is a brand name for an anti-virus software) can cause crashing errors in Microsoft Outlook 2016.
To make this work, you’ll have to turn off host intrusion prevention. Your antivirus program is the one in conflict here.
In the end, it doesn’t matter what virus protection you use, these Host IPS settings are going to cause conflicts with Outlook if they aren’t disabled.
