Disable Joyful Animations in Outlook.com

The Outlook Web App displays joyful animations when you receive mail in your reading pane. If these emails contain any word expressing surprise or strong emotion (like congratulations or happy birthday), moving your mouse cursor over them will cause a shower or light rain of glitter to be displayed.

You can disable these Joyful animations if you don’t like them.

Joyful Animations are visible only in the modern version of the Outlook Web App.

1] Access Outlook Settings

Launch Outlook.com. Enter your email id and password when prompted, then hit “Enter.”

Click on the “Settings” icon in the upper-right corner, then choose the “View Outlook Settings” option at the bottom of the screen.

2] Turn off Joyful Animations in the Reading Pane

From the left pane, choose the ‘Mail’ and ‘Compose and Reply’ options from the ‘Layout’ drop-down menu.

Now, scroll down until you find the ‘Joyful animations’ option. By default, this option is enabled and will show a celebratory burst of colorful shapes in the reading pane when you open a message that includes words like ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Congratulations’.
