The Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency issued a sports wagering facility license to Canton Gaming, LLC, and its operator partner Parx Interactive Maryland, Inc. The sportsbook is operating at the Greene Turtle restaurant in the Canton section of Baltimore (3803 Boston Street).
At the end of August, Canton Gaming and Parx successfully completed controlled demonstrations at the Greene Turtle location in Canton as customers participated in live wagering. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency ensured that the sportsbook complied with all required procedures and that its systems functioned properly.
Green Turtle – A leading name
Since 1976, sports fans have been enjoying great meals, drinks, and company at The Greene Turtle. Starting this month, the legacy brand took its gameday experience to the next level by including sportsbooks in Maryland.
In February this year, Maryland-based Finest Flag Gaming was awarded two retail licenses by the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC). It will operate sportsbooks in The Greene Turtle’s Canton and Towson locations, which is to be supported by Parx.
Both locations feature a modern, innovative design for an optimal sports betting and sports viewing experience. This will include state-of-the-art audio and visual technology featuring tickers that will allow bettors and sports fans to stay informed while experiencing the uninterrupted excitement of the sports world.
So why restaurants?
Restaurants are an ideal venue for sportsbook operations. Many bars and taverns show live sporting events on TV. They often plan their promotional schedules, particularly at weekends, to highlight and promote such events. By providing their patrons with the ‘on premise’ means to wager on those live sports events from the comfort of the bar, the bar owner can profit even more. This is an additional opportunity for increased dwell time, extra footfall, high levels of fan engagement, and improved F+B spending patterns.
12th Maryland online sportsbook is now available
In addition to offering sports betting through Greene Turtle branches, Parx launched online sports betting in Maryland via its digital brand betPARX last week. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency announced the launch of betPARX Maryland as part of its monthly revenue release. Maryland will be the fifth state in which betPARX has found a home in the online sports betting world.

betPARX Maryland is partnered with Greenmount Station in Hampstead, which has been granted permission for legal retail sports betting from the state. Now, with an online sportsbook up and running, Maryland bettors will find various sports to wager on as well as different betting options which include:

More fun for Marylanders thanks to Parx
With Maryland in the mix, betPARX sportsbook is now available in five different states. Maryland joins Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania as states offering betPARX.
The Greene Turtle in Canton becomes the 11th retail sportsbook location to open in Maryland. The restaurant’s Townson branch, which will also offer sports betting together with Parx, is expected to open soon.
