Nothing is as annoying as clicking onto a mobile website and finding it pretty much impossible to navigate on the phone.  Just a few years ago, this was pretty much the norm – very few businesses were bothering to make their websites mobile phone friendly.  These days, though, it’s just not a good idea to still have a bad mobile page.

The fact of the matter is that most consumers have changed their buying habits a lot.  Most of us are just spending a lot more time on our phones in general, right?  So, it stands to reason that this includes when we’re looking to splurge a bit.

User Experience is Key to Conversions

In this context, a “conversion” is when a customer completes a desired action on the website that they’re visiting.  Naturally, that could take shape in a few ways, depending on the business in question.  Some examples are to make a purchase or sign up for a newsletter or other type of e-mail list.

When you get a customer’s email, after all, that’s a “lead.”  In sales, that’s a pretty big deal.  Unfortunately, getting these results can be tricky when the consumers aren’t on their desktops to look at the website.  Pop-ups won’t look the same travelling between two different virtual mediums, for instance, which is why it’s important to consider the experience of browsers on their phone as well.

Try not to clutter the UI too much, as well.  While it might seem better to give more options or information than less, that isn’t always the case.  Customers know what they want to see, so you don’t have to overload them all at once.  Instead, provide options for navigating the space so that they can find what they’re looking for on their own.

It’s a delicate balancing game, though.  You don’t want to give too little info or too much.  Again, though, that’s where an external marketing expert might be able to help.  Generally speaking, they’re well-trained professionals who can help to figure out that balance for your specific company page.

All of this is to say that as we progress further into the digital age, conscientious web design is becoming more and more important.  The user experience on mobile might have been something to brush aside ten years ago, but that’s far from the case right now.  It should be prioritized just as much as, if not more than, the traditional desktop experience.
